Outstanding Scouters of T16

Posted by Prescott on April 28, 2009

You know, I don’t think its possible to serve as Scoutmaster alongside a finer team of Scouters.

Our parents and adult volunteers are top-shelf.  They embody the ideals of Scouting in their everyday workings with the Troop Commitee, the boys, and the community.  The great news is that others outside of Troop 16 have recognized this as well.

On Thursday April 30, 2009, Pioneer Trails District will recognize 7 Scouter’s from Troop 16 .  Take pride that these leaders have chosen to work with our Troop and be sure to thank all of our leaders for all they do!  We truly are blessed.

Files fixed

Posted by Prescott on April 23, 2009

Some folks have had a problem opening files on this website that were stored in Scribd, because of security programs.  We think that is fixed now.  Please advise if you continue to have problems with the Calendar or the Survivorman documents.

Two Slots Open- Missouri River Trip 2009

Posted by Prescott on April 7, 2009

We have two slots open for this Summer’s High Adventure Trip down the Missouri River.  These are open to current and former Troop 16′ers.  We already have a couple of Alumni on the trip and we’d love to have more.  Details are below;mrhab-1

“Feel the power of the mighty Missouri River at your feet as you navigate your canoe through the waters of the South Dakota and Nebraska border.”
Our major high adventure program for 2009 is a canoe trip tracing portions of the Lewis and Clark expedition, shortly after the birth of our Nation. The trip is a seven day experience, from July 26th to August 1st, 2009. In addition to canoeing, there are plenty of side activities. We will be able to work on the Historical Trails Award and the 50 Miler Award during the adventure.

“This wild and scenic section of the Mighty Mo offers unique programs at every turn. Camp on islands, learn to throw a tomahawk like a pro, horse back riding, archery, black powder muskets, view and help care for endangers species of fish and foul, learn and practice Leave No Trace principles. Visit historic sights from a vantage point few ever experience.”

We have slots for 22 participants. Scouts must be 13 years of age on January 1st, 2009. There are no exceptions to this policy. Every participant must be certified a “Swimmer” in accordance with BSA standards. A Current Class III physical is required of all participants.

Sign up at this point is done by e-mailing Mr. Hughes.  The slots will be filled on a first come-first served basis, with a waiting list established as well. Cost is $200.00 per person if we get our reservation deposits in by January 1st, 2009. The deposit is $75.00 per person and is due to the Troop at sign up. The balance of $125.00 is due by May 1st, 2009.

Basic First Aid & CPR

Troop 16 Adults and Scouts,first-aid

In order to fulfill BSA guidelines, we MUST have CPR/First Aid certified adults on every campout.  If you are already certified, please make a copy of your card and give it to our training coordinator, Mrs. Farrar, at a troop meeting or email it to her at farrarfamily4@comcast.net.   If you are not certified, please consider taking one of the following classes.  The South Metro Fire Protection District offers 2 classes here in Parker for $54.  The 1st class is done entirely in the classroom at the headquarters building, 10235 Parkglenn Way.  This is the class I would suggest if you have never been certified before or if you are taking the class with your son (12 or older suggested).  It is from 9am-4pm on either 4/4, 5/9 or 6/6.

The other option is best for those of you who have been certified in the past.  You do the coursework online and then do the 3 hour CPR portion in the classroom.  This option is offered on 4/29, 5/27 or 6/24 at the same location.  The link to sign up and pay for either of these classes is: http://foundation.parkerfire.org/index.cfm?secid=Classes&sectid=53&gid=2&cgnam=CPR/First%20Aid

Please consider taking one of these classes as soon as possible.  This is one training every adult and scout should have!

Wilderness First Aid

Scouters and senior Scouts,wilderness-first-aid

On September 19 and 20th we have arranged to have the Wilderness First Aid course taught specially for Troop leaders and senior Scouts.  This is a serious 16 hour training that teaches what to do in emergency situations when professional first responders aren’t available.  As a High Adventure Troop, I strongly urge each of our leaders to put this training on their calendars.  We should have several adults and older Scouts trained.

The cost is cheap at only $75 per person.  We are considering providing a subsidy for leaders who are active in campouts.  Though not every adult has to have it, having some leaders trained is required for Philmont in 2010.

Go to this website if you want to sign-up  http://amedteam.fredf.org/firstaid7?new .  Contact Mrs. Denton or Mrs. Farrar if you have questions.
