Okpik Date Change

Posted by Mark Abell on October 27, 2009

Previously we announced that Okpik would be January 22-24, 2010, but that date was full by the time we tried to reserve it. So we will now try to reserve January 8-10 instead. If successful, we will reserve 10 spots. First Come, first served.

We will move the January Campout to the weekend of January 15-17 to accommodate this change.

Note from the Knippers Family

Posted by Lisa Denton on October 24, 2009

Dear Troop 16 Family,

It saddens me to report that our family is moving to Arizona. I just completed my first week at my new job, and Janette is wrapping up alot of the miscellaneous details in Parker. I tried my best to find a position in Colorado, but unfortunately was unsuccessful.

I cannot express in words how much this troop has meant to me and my family. The dedication of our leaders to help our young boys become proficient leaders is amazing. Many of you showed your scout spirit by bringing meals to our family during Spencer’s surgery. We will be forever grateful. From the first night we came in, you all made us feel welcome and we will miss every one of you. Gabe is sad that he will never get to experience the great campouts at Troop 16 (as well as his Cubs buddy, Jordan Abell).

Believe me, I am just as in shock writing this note as you are reading it. I am praying that someone new will make the decision to move from the sidelines of scouting to getting in the game. This is the best troop in Colorado and every one of you add value to our boys and the program.

Forever yours in scouting,
Gene Knippers

Medieval Pig Roast is for Families

Posted by Prescott on October 21, 2009

pig-roast1Come one, come all !!

Just a quick reminder that the Medieval Pig Roast that will follow the Quest for the Holy Grail race is being planned for Scouts, Scout Families, and Webelos.  Just like last year, we expect to feed a couple of hundred folks.

So don’t leave us hanging with left-overs.  The Scouts will be participating in making this delicious spread and according to Mr. Jimerson and Mr. Brainard, its going to be top-notch.  Though from what I hear, they’re planning some deviations from a true medieval feast, since sometimes those could be pretty sparse.

If you intend to come, please sign-up online.  As of today, the sign-up is  active….Please click here to find out more and to sign up.

Oct 20th Meeting - Undercover Drug Agents come to T16

Posted by Prescott on October 18, 2009

Troop,

There is a meeting this coming Tuesday, Oct 20th, and it will be pretty unusual.  Mr. See is bringing some of his undercover police friends to talk about drugs and alcohol.  They’ll be bringing examples and talking about the details of catching crooks who deal drugs.

See you there.

Quest for the Holy Grail

Posted by Prescott on October 16, 2009

Sharpen your skills and your swords, its time for the Quest for the Holy Grail Adventure Race and Medieval Pig Roast.

The November Campout (Nov 6,7,8th) is devoted to this once-a-year, life-sized video game.  Patrols will compete for the coveted Troop 16 Cup and this year’s race is better than ever.  There will be more challenges and some cool new stuff (paintball slingshots, roadboarding, along with archery and human catapulting).

Campout times are normal.  We’ll leave the Church at 4pm on Friday.  The race begins promptly at 8am on Saturday and ends at 1pm.  The distances are shorter this year, so teams should complete more challenges.  After the race, Scouts will help with the Medieval Pig Roast and we’ll all eat at around 4pm (families are encouraged to come.)

We’ll be using Peaceful Valley Scout Ranch’s facilities for the race.  While its a little longer drive out there, entering the Ranch is free and we have the run of the place.  For anyone coming on Saturday morning, the center post of the race is Castle Arghhh and it will be located at the old pool area (just turn right at the Dobbins main parking lot and follow the flags).

Online sign-up is online now!. Please click here to find out more.  Webelos who want to attend are encouraged and welcome.  Just contact Mr. Coleman, prescottcoleman@live.com to reserve a spot.  Webelos who attend will get to participate in a team.

T16 Scouts Needed!

Posted by Mark Abell on October 12, 2009

Troop 16 to host a Webelos Adventure Day October 17

We will be hosting a Webelos Adventure Day on Saturday, October 17th, from 2:00 pm to 10:00 pm at Willow Pointe Park. Currently, we have 22 Webelos from 7 different packs attending. We need Troop 16 scouts to participate and help run this event. This is our first and best opportunity to recruit new scouts for 2010. I have a high expectation that we will have a strong turnout for this event. Please click here for more information and to sign up to help run this event (even if you can only be there for part of the event). We need at least 10 T16 scouts to make this a success.
