Troop Elections and Reorganization Coming Feb 9
Posted by Mark Abell on January 30, 2010
Attention All First Class or Higher Rank Scouts,
A quick reminder that on Feb 9, we will have our troop wide election for your next Senior Patrol Leader; and patrol elections for your Patrol’s next Patrol Leader. If you want to run for one of the following positions, you MUST either email Mr. Abell stating what position you want to run for, or sign up at this Tuesday’s meeting. Tuesday, Feb 2 is the deadline for signup for the election.
Available positions are: SPL, ASPL*, Troop Guide*, Troop Instructor*, Burnt Toast Patrol Leader, Indians Patrol Leader, Moosen Patrol Leader, Ravens Patrol Leader, New To-Be-Formed Patrol Leader, New First Year Scouts Patrol Leader*, Librarian*, Scribe*, Historian*, Web Historian*, Veteran Gear Coordinator*, Leave No Trace Coordinator*, Quartermaster’s Aide*, and Chaplain’s Aide*. Den Chief is now a “Fall-only” position, since Cub Scouts do not meet most of the summer. (The Asterisked roles are appointed by the Scoutmaster and new Senior Patrol Leader based on qualifications among those who show interest.)
Please note: you must be First Class or higher to run for a position, or be able to show Mr. Abell that you will be First Class prior to May 1, 2010 (otherwise you won’t get credit toward rank advancement for your position). You must also commit to your position in order to get credit, and you must commit to attend the Junior Leadership Training on March 6th.
Reminder: Tuesday 1/26 is PLC
Posted by Mark Abell on January 25, 2010Scouts,
Just a quick reminder that this Tuesday’s meeting is a PLC, not a regular Troop Meeting. If you are not on the Leadership Committee, there is no need to attend.
If, however, you are on the Staff patrol, please plan on attending. There will be a brief Staff-only meeting after the PLC.
2010 Calendar Now Posted
Posted by Mark Abell on January 23, 2010
The Troop Planning Calendars for all of 2010 and the first 3 months of 2011 have now been posted to the website and are ready for your download. Click on the Calendar-PDF link in the Quick Links box to the right to go to the Calendar web page.
Consistent with my message at the Court of Honor, we will be working hard to put more structure into each meeting. So beginning in March 2010, you will now find at the bottom of each troop calendar entry, the tentative theme for that meeting: Advancement, Skills, or Games.
Advancement nights will focus on Trail to First Class, Merit Badges, or another form of Advancement activity (Mock Disasters, Mobilization Drill Prep, etc).
Skills nights are the Educate and Demonstrate part of the EDGE method and will focus on training scouts key skills, whether that is cooking, taking care of gear, or any manner of outdoor skill (survival, knot tying, etc.).
Game nights are the Guide and Enable part of the EDGE method andwill attempt to reinforce the skills training by allowing the scouts to “show their stuff” in a fun patrol competition-style environment.
You will also note that Troop Committee Meetings have now been scheduled on the 3rd or 4th Monday of each month. ASM meetings are typically on the first Monday of each month. Parents, these meetings are your opportunity to impact the direction of the troop. Please add these to your calendars and plan on attending.

Polish up your shovels, and we’ll see you there.
The “Welcome Mat” is out for you
Posted by Prescott on January 21, 2010
2010 is a great year to join Troop 16!
The door is open and the welcome mat is out.
Cub Scouts often find themselves choosing a Boy Scout Troop in January, February, and March — and we’d love to have you come visit to see if Troop 16 is right for you. Indeed, because there are lots of new faces this time of year, its a great time for boys who’ve never been in Cubs or Scouting before to join. Now and throughout the year, we welcome boys from 10-11 to 17 years old.
This website is a great way to get to know us. Check out our “Calendar“, our “Photos“, and the “About Us” page. And, to make things even easier, we’ve put together this info-packed Brochure.
Parker’s High Adventure Troop is not for everyone. We are about high levels of challenge, discipline, an uncompromisingly boy-run program, and advancement. But, if these things get you energized, stop by a meeting and visit.
Winter Court of Honor
Posted by Mark Abell on January 18, 2010Tuesday, January 19th is Troop 16’s Winter Court of Honor. In addition to the usual rank advancement and awards, we will have a special slideshow that will help get everyone excited about our upcoming campouts and high adventure trips.
Troop 16 Scouts and Families should be sure to attend, and Parker Area Webelos are welcome, too!

Scout Sunday
Posted by Mark Abell on January 12, 2010Scout Sunday is coming on February 14, 2010. This is the day where churches around the country recognize the power of the scouting movement and the many ways it helps boys grow into well-rounded young men who “do their best to do their duty to God and Country…”
You can have a part in this year’s event, our 100th anniversary of scouting in America, by volunteering to usher at one of the services. For more information and to sign up click here.
Recharter Fees Due 1/12/10
Posted by Lisa Denton on January 9, 2010Mr. Coleman’s brother to receive Silver Beaver
Posted by Prescott on January 4, 2010
Just this summer the Troop took a moment of silence to pray for Sean Coleman who is Mr. Coleman’s brother (T16’s High Adventure Coordinator and former Scoutmaster). He was undergoing spinal surgery, which he might not have survived.
He did, and is due to get his neck brace off in time for an extraordinary event. On January 30th, 2010, Sean will receive the rare Silver Beaver Award from his Council (Longs Peak). Since this award was created in 1931, there have averaged only about 600 in the U.S. each year. Sean is an incredible force of nature. Diagnosed with cerebal palsey at a young age, he has struggled with physical and neurological challenges his entire life. But, he defined the term “indomitable spirit” and in so doing has impacted a generation of Scouts over the last quarter century. An Eagle at 13 and a Vigil member of the Order of the Arrow, Sean has been a Troop Committee Chairman for his Troop in Boulder and even written standards for advancement for disabled Scouts.
Join with me in celebrating this incredible honor, that is given to so few, and means so much.
Mr. Coleman
