Congratulations Eagle Scout Jason C.
Posted by Mark Abell on April 28, 2010
Please join me in congratulating our newest Eagle Scout, Jason C. Last night, Jason successfully passed his Eagle Board of Review, and will forever be listed on the rolls of Troop 16’s Eagle Scouts.
We are mighty proud of all he accomplished on his path to Eagle. Jason’s Eagle Project was the capstone of his accomplishment. He provided a complete replacement and upgrade of the amphitheater at Cherry Creek State Park, a very significant undertaking, with over 500 man hours of service. It is perhaps the largest Eagle Project in Troop 16’s history, and sets the bar pretty high for all that follow in his footsteps.
Congratulations Jason!
T16 Catches the Eye of the Real Survivorman
Posted by Mark Abell on April 28, 2010Every once in awhile we Scoutmasters get some serious bragging rights for our Troop. Today was one of those days for me.
Today, I received an unsolicited email from Mr. Les Stroud, better known as the star of the Survivorman TV Series on the Discovery Channel and The Science Channel. He has asked me to let all of you know that he gives our Survivorman Challenge his “Thumbs Up” and wishes us great success this weekend.
For those of you that are participating this weekend, you can all hold your heads up high, knowing that as you push through this challenge, you have caught the eye of the real Survivorman, and have gained his support and well-wishes too.
Survivorman Update - New Rules
Posted by Mark Abell on April 26, 2010- 8×10 Tarp
- Full sized Backpack
- Raingear - Though the rules specifically allow for clothes appropriate to the weather, we are stressing that Scouts have good rain/sleet gear (rain coat, with rain pants/snow pants if possible). AND, DO NOT wear jeans to Survivorman. Jeans are cotton and the old adage of Cotton Kills! will be especially true in this weather.
- Layers - Prepare for winter conditions and you won’t be miserable.
Church Work Day is ON!
Posted by Mark Abell on April 23, 2010Neither Snow nor Rain nor Heat of Summer can stop a Boy Scout, especially a Troop 16 Scout.
So, tomorrow we WILL meet at the church to do our duty to God and Community by helping our Chartering Organization that gives us so much. Please make sure you follow the Scout Motto, and “Be Prepared”. We could be working inside or outside, unless we get significant amounts of additional snow. So plan on joining us at 8:00 am at the church to show PUMC how honored we are to have their support. Come with water bottles, warm clothing, work gloves, boots and rain gear, just in case we are outside. Bring shovels and rakes, too.
See you there!
Survivorman Location
Posted by Prescott on April 21, 2010
Survivorman 2010 is at the Gates Backcountry part of Peaceful Valley Scout Ranch (PV) again this year.
This is nice because its close, about 30 mins away. It also means that if boys or adults can’t come for the entire weekend, they can come for some.
To get to Peaceful Valley Scout Ranch (PV), you go out Hwy 86, past Elizabeth and turn right at Kiowa on N. Elbert road. Its about 11 miles through the little town of Elbert to PV. You will want the second entrance on the left. Signage is ok, but not great. Once in the Ranch, following the attached map.
Click the Map for a larger version. More details are available on the Camping & Activities page.
Mock Disaster Coming April 20th & May 4th
Posted by Mark Abell on April 18, 2010
During the months of March and April, Troop 16 will be working on First Aid skills and Emergency Preparedness. Then, on April 20th and May 4th, Troop 16 will be holding 2 Mock Disaster nights as the capstone to these meetings. Thanks to all the volunteers who signed up to help pull this off.
Please note: The meetings will start PROMPTLY at 6:30. Please be in uniform on 4/20/10. We will be messier on 5/4/10. Pleae do NOT wear your uniform; wear something that can get dirty and possibly stained forever. Adults who do not have a ‘role’, please bring your cameras and take lots of photos at both meetings. Because of the wonderful makeup skills of Mrs. Santy, the victim’s wounds are very realistic. We do not recommend bringing younger siblings to the 5/4/10 meeting.
