Mini-High Adventure – Lost Creek Backpacking Signup Online

Posted by Brian Hardy on May 21, 2019

The June High Adventure Campout will be a 3 or 4-day backpacking trek into the Lost Creek Wilderness.  We will leave the church at 4:00 pm on Thursday, June 13 or 8:00 am Friday June 14, and will return on Sunday afternoon. During the Trek we expect to backpack 15 or more miles over 2 1/2 days, while exploring the unique geologic monoliths that are present in the Lost Creek Wilderness.

The trek is open to scouts 13 years old or older and First Class Rank or higher. To find out more, and to sign up, click here.

This is a great prep trip for Philmont and Northern Tier, but you don’t have to be going to these National High Adventure Bases to come.

Wilderness First Aid Classes

Posted by Brian Hardy on January 12, 2019

There are a number of classes in the area coming up for Advanced Wilderness First Aid as well as for 2-year re-certification classes for anyone with an expiring certification.

All of the National High Adventure treks that we go on require the adults in attendance to have this certification so if you are planning to go to Philmont this year or Northern Tier next year now is the time to complete this class.

Here is a link to their class schedule:

/home/troop27/public html/v3/wp content/uploads/2016/05/personal fitnessFor all Scouts desiring to complete the 12 week exercise program and bi-weekly fitness assessments, we will begin this Tuesday, May 10th at 6:30.  Please meet in the playground area on the East side of the church.  I will have a sign up list at that time so I can maintain a list of who is participating and have the ability to communicate with you on the schedule for the subsequent meetings.

Before you begin, you must meet Requirement 1a “Before completing requirements 2 through 9, have your health-care practitioner give you a physical examination, using the Scout medical examination form.”  If you have not received a Blue Card yet for Personal Fitness, please see your merit badge coordinator during the meeting and get one.  Print out a copy of the merit badge worksheet and review the requirements at

Our goal every two weeks will be to complete the bi-weekly fitness assessments.  After this weeks initial assessment you will need to outline your 12 week exercise program and have it approved by your parents and your merit badge counselor.  Mr. Hardy will be available during meetings to sign off on progress.

If you cannot be there this Tuesday, I will be there on May 17th as well to run the initial assessment.  Week 2 will begin on May 24th.  Additional dates will be communicated later.

Congratulations to Troop 16’s Newest Eagle

Posted by Brian Hardy on March 20, 2013

Just 10 days shy of his 18th birthday, Spencer is now an Eagle.  Please join the members of his Eagle board and his parents, Calvin and Kris in congratulating Spencer for his achievement.

Spencer’s Eagle project was placing signs and enhancing the cross country course at Sierra Middle School.  This project is a tremendous asset for the school’s athletic department and will be enjoyed by athletes for years to come.
