Swimming Merit Badge
Posted by Lisa Denton on August 30, 2010
The last session of the water portion of the Swimming Merit Badge is on September 12 from 2-5pm at the Parker Rec Center; $3.50 for scouts. You may begin or complete the badge at these sessions if you have already started it.
If you would like to attend this merit badge class, you must respond to me by Tuesday 9/7 for the 9/12 class.
At these sessions we will focus on the following requirements: 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9. The dry portion for you to do on your own are requirements: 1, 2, 6d, 10. Requirement 3 has to do with rank advancement; if you are not a First Class Scout, you must have completed Second Class requirements 8a, 8b, 8c and First Class requirements 9a, 9b, 9c. If you are not sure if you have completed these requirements, email me or discuss at a Scout meeting.
Please note that these sessions are not swimming classes. Read the badge requirements and practice to be sure that you will pass. This is a very important badge and no requirement will be signed off unless you are proficient at it.
Go to http://meritbadge.org/wiki/images/d/db/swimming.pdf to download the worksheet.

Railroading Merit Badge
Posted by Lisa Denton on July 30, 2010The Rocky Mountain Division of the Train Collectors Association will be hosting a Railroading Merit Badge program at the annual Summer Train Show. The show will be August 7-8 at the Colo Railroad Museum in Golden. Scouts and Scouters in uniform will be admitted free to the show and the museum. This is a fun and fast merit badge for scouts, especially good for younger scouts. This is also a great outing for the whole family.

Mock Disaster
Posted by Lisa Denton on May 5, 2010Usually when I post things here I am speaking to the scouts or trying to get volunteers to staff an event for the scouts. Today I am going to break tradition.
First and foremost I would like to say that I am truely grateful to be in an organization with so many wonderful people. I know we all got involved in scouts for our sons. But they are not the only ones who benefit. I have made many, many friends right here in Troop 16.
So… I would like to thank you all for giving up your Tuesdays and helping to put on such a wonderful program for all our boys. Thanks to those of you who go camping with our boys so many times a year. Thanks to all of you who spend countless hours organizing, planning, counseling and mentoring.
But especially, from the bottom of my heart, thank you for letting us squirt fake blood all over you! :)
To everyone involved in the Mock Disasters…You are the BEST!

Please Return Merit Badge Books
Posted by Lisa Denton on March 8, 2010Please look through your bookcase, under your bed, behind the hamper, in your backpacks etcetera, etcetera… and find all the merit badge books you have borrowed from the troop. Keep them if you are still working on the badge but return them if you are not using them anymore. There are other scouts who need to use these books too. New books cost $5 each now, so I would hate to waste the money buying new books if the books we already own are just laying forgotten somewhere. Remember, a Scout is Thrifty!
CPR/1st Aid Certification
Posted by Lisa Denton on March 8, 2010Calling all Scouts and Scouters! A Scout is prepared for anything. But to be prepared we need to be trained. There is a CRP/1st Aid training class coming to Parker on 4/17/10 for the incrediably low price of $35. This is an 8 hour class. Scouts under 13 need to be accompanied by an adult. We do need as many of our adults to get this training as possible. We can’t go on all our wonderful trips without trained adults. Please click here for more info and to sign up: http://www.auroramedteam.org/firstaid.htm .
