2018 Fall/Winter Leadership Positions

It is time again for the Troop to elect new youth leaders.  The deadline for requesting a Leadership position is August 13, 2018.  If you would like a leadership position for the Fall Winter term of 2018 and are at or above First Class rank (exceptions listed below) email Mrs. Lipman (scoutmaster@bsa16.org) to request the positions you want to run for.  It is recommended that you request 3 positions with the first being the position you want the most.  Please remember that Senior Patrol Leader and Patrol Leaders are voted on by the Scouts within the troop and patrol, respectively.  Also, Assistant Patrol Leader and Veteran Gear Coordinator do not count toward rank advancement.

We have not finalized a date yet on the Junior Leadership Training but will do that in the very near future.

Feed My Starving Children – Mobile Food Pack

Every year our charter organization Parker United Methodist Church works with Feed My Starving Children to hand pack special meals for malnourished children and ship these meals to over 70 countries worldwide.  This is a great volunteer opportunity for you and your families to get service hours and have fun doing it.  There will be lots of music and dancing so bring your moves and your Troop 16 spirit!!

Saturday, August 18th     9a-11a

Saturday, August 18th     12n-2p

Saturday, August 18th     2:30p-4:30p

Scout Sunday signup is now closed

Scout Sunday, February 11, 2018, gives the Troop a unique opportunity to serve our charter organization, Parker United Methodist Church, by greeting and ushering Church service attendees. There are three Sunday services, 8:00AM, 9:30AM, and 11:00AM. Our volunteer windows start 20 minutes before each service, and go until roughly 15 minutes after a service concludes. Scouts must be in their full class A uniform and will receive service hours credit for their participation.

Okpik Registration is open

Have you ever wanted to be trained in building snow shelters, spending the weekend having fun in the snow, or meeting new scouts and scouters?  Then you need to sign up for Okpik.

Okpik is state-of-the-art training to give leaders, (both youth and adult), confidence in taking groups into a cold environment and support a year-round camping program. Our cold weather training is appropriate only for those leaders and campers who already have basic Scouting skills and mild weather camping experience. Our training includes skills that can ensure a successful, fun and safe cold weather camping experience. The signup link for this fun training experience is below.

If you decide to join a session, please email Mrs. Lipman as we are still looking for trained Quinzee builders to assist during winter camping.  To become trained you must attend Okpik twice.  Once as a participant and once as a leader.

Arrow of Light Crossover Ceremonies

Troop 16 will be welcoming several new scouts into our Troop at Arrow of Light cross-over ceremonies in the next few weeks. The first meeting for these new scouts will be on March 6th, 2018. We need help from current scouts! Please let Mr. Carlson know as soon as possible if you can attend one of the upcoming cross-over ceremonies. You will earn service hours for your help with these events.

The junior leadership training will be held on February 17th from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm, location TBD.  If you are running for a leadership position you MUST attend this training so please make sure you are able to make this training before asking for a leadership position.

2018 Firearm and Archery Training Class Dates

Big Horn 2018 – Troop Sponsorship Application

National Youth Leadership Training (NYLT) is an exciting, action-packed program designed to provide youth members with leadership skills and experience they can use in their home units and in other situations demanding leadership of self and others.

The Big Horn NYLT Course is leadership training experience sponsored by the Denver Area Council and held annually at Tahosa High Adventure Base near Ward, Colorado. The training is conducted by highly qualified youth staff under the supervision of adult advisors.

The course models a month in the life of a unit and consists of six days of Scout activities.

Each year Troop 16 provides sponsorship for some scouts to attend the event. If you are at first class or above and are interested in applying for a sponsorship, you must submit an essay consisting of at least 1 full single-spaced page describing your vision of a great leader and what qualities make great leaders.  Essays must be emailed to scoutmaster@bsa16.org by December 1, 2017 in order to be considered for the sponsorship.
