Troop 16 Merit Badge College 2017

Troop 16’s Merit Badge College

The Troop 16 Merit Badge College will be on Saturday, December 2, 2017 at Parker UMC, 11805 S. Pine Dr., Parker, CO.  Be sure to register early in order to complete prerequisites and to allow time to read the merit badge book.  Scouts must read the merit badge book and bring a worksheet to class (for worksheets – start here http://meritbadge.org/wiki/index.php/Merit_Badges and then follow the links). 

Registration will end on: November 30, 2017. 

Event Time Line: December 2, 2017
7:30am to 8:00am – Registration and sign-ups
8:00am to 11:30am – Morning session
8:30am to 10:00am Intro to the merit badge process & Troop Track (Scout parent focused)

11:30 to 12:30 – Lunch

12:30 to 4:00 –  Afternoon session
4:00 to 4:30 – Conclusion and wrap up

Shooting Sports camp out and Fire Arms Safety Course Sign up now Live

The signup for the Outober campout, shooting sports is now open. Boys will be able to work on their rifle and shotgun shooting for the merit badges, or to improve their skills. Each boy attending the campout to shoot, must have been through one of Troop 16’s Home Firearm Safety courses. Signup links for both the campout and the HFS course are available from the campout’s information page. Signup for the campout closes October 10th, at midnight.

September 15-17th Backpacking Campout

Back by popular demand, the September campout will be a backpacking trip. We will travel to Lost Creek Wilderness area and hike approximately 3 miles along the Wigwam trail for an amazing weekend experience. Scouts will hike through the valley with views of nearby Bison and Windy Peak and work on skills such as fire starting, water filtration/purification, land navigation and how to properly set up/break down camp in the back country. August 14ner Campout Sign-up is Live

There are over 50 Fourteeners (summits above 14,000 feet) in Colorado.  How many have you bagged?  The August campout will be your chance to join the elite Fouteener club or to add to your list of summits. Mt. Sherman (14,036 feet) will be our objective.  We will hike from the trailhead 2500 feet below the summit to to qualify for the Colorado Fourteener Club patch and summit before noon on Saturday.  Weather permitting, we will have a campfire on Saturday night.

April 2017 – Glenwood Caverns and Adventure Park Campout – Signup is Now Open

The April Campout is devoted to camping, a headlamp cave tour in Glenwood Caverns and Adventure Park Admittance. We will be staying on the land owned by the Caverns, and will get a free, private guided headlamp tours in return for a Trash pickup service project.

The Parker Police Department is hosting merit badge training.

The Parker Police Department is hosting a merit badge training for area boy and girl scouts. This training will help cover the scout requirements for the following four sections:

Crime Prevention
Fingerprinting and Evidence
Emergency Preparedness
Police officer questions and police car

Each section of the training will be approximately 30 minutes, and the scout groups will rotate through each of the four sections.

The police department will be hosting a large number of scouts at this presentation. In order to allow the maximum number of scouts to take advantage of this training, they ask that only scouts and leaders attend.

March 2016 – Ski and Snowboard Campout Signup is Open

February 2017 – Quinzee building and Tubing – Signup is Now Open

The signup is now open to attend the February 2017 campout. The troop will be spending the weekend near Fraser, Colorado. We will be at the St. Louis Creek Campground (link). If there is enough snow, quinzee building will be started Saturday morning, and tubing at Colorado Adventure Park in the evening. Please view the signup page for more information.
