Training Opportunities
Posted by Mark Abell on September 2, 2010In 2011, all ASM’s, Committee Members, and other Direct Contact Leaders from all Troops across the country will need to be fully trained in their position in order to remain registered with the Troop as an adult leader. As a result, both the District and the Council will be providing opportunities to get trained. We all owe it to our boys to be fully trained. Please remember to turn in your training completion certificate and your receipt to the troop. The troop pays a subsidy for all adult training.
University of Scouting
The University of Scouting offers adult scouters a wide variety of training class, from the required classes to training in camping skills, camp cooking, and a variety of others. It will be held on October 23rd at Thomas Jefferson High School from 7:30 am - 4:00 pm. The cost is $35/person for a full day of training. To find out more, click here.
Trainingpalooza
Once each quarter, the District Roundtable Staff will offer a full day training event to knock out the basic training for all scouter positions. The next Trainingpalooza will be held at the LDS Stake House on Bayou Gulch near Ponderosa HS on September 11th. To find out more or to register for the training of your choice, go to the Denver Area Council Training Page
CPR Training
The District has arranged a great opportunity to get CPR Trained, as well. The cost is $20 per person. The date is November 20th. 3 Sessions will be offered. More info to come.

Popcorn Show-n-Sell Signups Online
Posted by Mark Abell on September 2, 2010
Troop 16’s Popcorn Kernel, Mr. Rasmussen, has arranged several opportunities for scouts to work at a Show-n-Sell. Show-n-Sells are a great opportunity to get ahead on your popcorn sales! Scouts are encouraged to sign up for an open slot and work a 2 1/2 - 3 hour shift selling popcorn in front of King Soopers, Safeway, or Walmart. Sales are practically guaranteed - and you will get credit for everything you sell. Remember, 20% of the gross sales goes straight to your scout account and helps offset the costs of scouting.
Now we need your help in filling up the sign-ups. You can find more information and the sign-up pages HERE.

Posted by Mark Abell on August 29, 2010
Paddle your way to high adventure in 2011! Troop 16 is trying to put together a trip to Northern Tier High Adventure Canoe Base for summer of 2011. To do so, we need to understand how many boys and adults would be interested in attending Northern Tier next summer.
Please show your interest in attending by signing up by September 7th, 2010. We will place a reservation with Northern Tier based on the information and interest level we receive, and then will create a more formal sign-up and take deposits once we have a formal date reserved.

Congratulations to Eagle Will P.
Posted by Mark Abell on August 11, 2010
Please join me in congratulating Will P. on achieving the rank of Eagle. On Monday, Will passed his Eagle Board of Review to forever join the ranks of Troop 16 Eagles at #89.
For those that may not know, Will has impressive life ambitions which include attending a military academy and a possible run for President of the United States, so Mr. Santy assembled an equally impressive and high-powered Eagle Board. It was made up of: Parker’s Mayor Casiano; Bennie Milliner, a staffer with Senator Bennet’s office in charge of Military Academy recommendations; Mike Buchart, District Eagle Advisor; Mr. Kelly Cottingham, Eagle Scout and parent of a T16 Eagle currently attending the Air Force Academy; and Mr. Jeff Mueller, parent of a T16 Life Scout. The Board was very impressed with the young man that Will has become; and Mr. Milliner is sure to be an advocate for Will as he works his way to an Academy.
Congratulations to the entire Parker family!
