The Passing of One of Our Own

Posted by Mark Williams on October 8, 2017

It is with sadness that I report that one of Troop 16’s former scouters passed away unexpectedly on Friday, September 29th. Joe Kjar, Troop 16 Assistant Scoutmaster serving from 2008 to 2014, and father of Eagle Scout Devin Kjar (2014), passed away. He died of natural causes at the age of 50, and leaves behind his children, Devin and Brooke, his ex-wife Michele Peterson, and his parents, Jim and Judy Kjar (all of Parker). He would have celebrated his 51st birthday on October 5th. The family will hold a Memorial and Celebration of Joe’s Life at Ponderosa Valley Funeral Services on October 26, 2017 starting at 3:00 pm. All interested scouts and scouters are welcome to attend. The family has asked that memorial contributions be made to Troop 16 in honor of his love for scouting. http://www.ponderosavalleyfunerals.com/notices/Joseph-Kjar

Sincerely,
Mark Abell
Former Scoutmaster (2009-2011)

It is with great pleasure that I am able to announce Troop 16’s newest Eagle Scouts. Christian D. and Colin D. now share one more thing in common, besides being twins. Both boys have earned their Eagle Scout rank tonight.

Christian, the troop’s 127th Eagle, collected over 600 books to send to operationpaperback.org. From there, the books are then given to our troops that are stationed overseas.

Colin, the troop’s 128th Eagle, created 50 survival backpacks to give to the Urban Peak organization. From there, the backpacks are given to homeless youth of Denver.

Congratulations Christian and Colin, you are Eagle Scouts!

Back by popular demand: Adventure Race, Holy Grail Style.

Due to overwhelming popularity, this November a Battle with the Bunny will return. In order to make this work, the troop needs the help of ALL the adults, specifically we are looking for a race coordinator. The race takes planning and support, starting in the July/August. Mr. Nash will guide you as you lead this adventure. You start by hand picking your Round Table of volunteers. Who will be your faithful assistant and keeper of your steed? Who will help with your Shrubery (Ni)? Who will help you guard the Castle of Aaaaargh? There is a lot of documentation with this adventure so you will not be creating it from scratch. If you would like to lead this adventure, please contact Mr. Nash.

We are being asked to lead the presentation of the colors and pledge of allegiance. This could provide an opportunity to earn service hours, or work on your communication merit badge. Please visit the informational page to see more and sign up.
