Troop 16 will devote our September, 2009 camp weekend to backpacking in the James Peak Wilderness Area (near Rollinsville). There will be multiple backpacking treks, short (approx. 4 miles), medium (approx. 6-8 miles) and long (15 miles). The medium and long trek will be structured especially for those boys working on their backpacking merit badge. The short trek will count toward the Camping Merit Badge Requirements. Each trek will have a limit of 12 “heartbeats” per Wilderness Area requirements.
When?
Friday, September 11 – Sunday, September 13, 2009
We will meet at the church at 4:00 pm Friday, and return around noon on Sunday.
Where?
We will be camp in a wilderness area in completely undeveloped areas, near the east entrance of the Moffat Tunnel using Wilderness guidelines. Groups will camp at least 1/4 mile apart, with no more than 12 members per group. Water will come from streams and lakes in the area using troop filters and we will practice Wilderness Leave No Trace guidelines. There will be no access to potable water, latrines or fire pits. Instead, we will use water filters, catholes and one-burner stoves.

Mr. Siebring and Mr. Bills will lead the long Trek
Cost?
$18.00 per person.
