Jamboree on the Air & Radio Merit Badge Weekend

Starting at 9AM we will be teaching Radio Merit Badge.  Throughout the day you will be participating in Jamboree on the Air, an International Scouting event where Scouts talk directly to other Scouts around the United States and possibly the world using Amateur Radio! Participants should bring their own sack lunch, water, and snacks.

Scouts can also do a “Fox Hunt.” To ham radio operators, that is locating a hidden transmitter using handheld receivers and directional antennas.

It will be an action packed day! Boy Scouts will come away with new and unique experiences and earn Radio Merit Badge.  We will be finished at 4PM.

Zombiepocalypse

You listen on the battery powered radio in hopes of some reprieve, the repeating tones of the emergency broadcast signal your only comfort. The monotone voice brings you back to day one; the man who consumed the world’s oldest Twinkie and went feral seemed ludicrous.

Things got real when the military showed up and tried to contain the epidemic. The Huntsman warned us not to venture out as the containment methods were lethal.  Minefields were all that was mentioned, but who really knew what lay in wait.

You snap awake to the familiar sound of distant helicopters. A voice comes over the radio, “The Front Range cannot be saved, the area is to be purged to avoid any further contamination. Anyone hearing this message has until 4:00 pm to make it to Peaceful Valley Scout Ranch.”

You search for The Huntsman but are only able to locate a map and compass from his tent. The map is a treasure trove of the park, showing minefield locations, pockets of survivors, and hidden caches.

Put your survival skills to the test at the ZOMBIEPOCALYPSE, where it’s all about your brain! You’ll have to analyze the map and take compass bearings while you weigh your chances on a path of your choosing. Take the speed of the open field, or bushwhack through the forest? Your fate lies in your decision making.

Early registration ends on October 12th so sign up prior to that to save some money.  Final registration is Oct. 17th.

Mr. Mead is going and I am willing to drive, which means I can take 5 other scouts with me.  I will be eating lunch out at the event.  Please bring money if you plan on eating at the event.

Also, we will be stopping by and visiting Mr. Hughes in the morning to get in some Jamboree on the Air so we will take off early on Saturday morning.  Please contact Mr. Mead with any questions.
