Northern Tier High Adventure Base 2011
Posted by Mark Abell on September 9, 2010Troop 16 has put together an 8-day trip to Northern Tier High Adventure Base for the summer of 2011.
Here are the specifics:
What:
Northern Tier High Adventure Base Trip: Canoe the Boundary Waters of Northern Minnesota
When:
July 11, 2011 - July 20, 2011 (late evening). Check-in at Northern Tier High Adventure Base at 1:00 pm on July 12, 2011. Check out of Northern Tier High Adventure Base the morning of July 20, 2011. Travel by air to and from the Minneapolis Airport, with rental car from Minneapolis to Ely, MN and back again. The trip from Minneapolis to Ely is approximately 5 hours, so there will be a lay-over on July 11 with a hotel stay.

The following costs are an estimate of the cost of the trip, excluding any special equipment or clothing you may need or want to purchase. They are based on published information on the Northern Tier Home Page.

Trek Cost $475/person
Flight $200/person
Rental Van $175/person
Gas $50/person
Hotel en route $100/person
Meals en route $50/person
Fishing License $29/person
Crew Picture $8/person
Map $8/person
TOTAL COST $1,095/person
Flight and rental van costs are estimates based on prices currently available (as of 8-29-10) online for travel from DIA to Minneapolis, and for rental of a 12-person van with room for baggage.
A deposit of $165 per person will be due no later than September 21, 2010.

Special Requirements:
Youth:
Age 13 by September 1, 2011;
First Class Rank or Higher;
Have passed the BSA Swim Test; and
Class 3 Med form
Adults:
Have passed the BSA Swim Test;
Class 3 Med form; and
At least one adult in the crew must have Wilderness First Aid, Safe Swim Defense, and Safety Afloat.
Sign-up:
The sign-up will become available for sign-up at exactly 7:30pm on Sunday, September 12, 2010, and will be handled on a first come, first served basis as follows: The first 5 boys and first 3 adults (with a boy on the list) to sign up online will automatically be the ones to go. All others will be placed on a waitlist which will be managed in the order of sign-up. The troop was only able to reserve one crew (of eight) for Northern Tier 2011.
