Description:

Troop 16’s August camp out will be a standard troop campout, but families will be invited to join us.  We will be heading to Buena Vista, where families (parents and siblings) will have the opportunity to join us.  Families will be asked to select one of 3 family adventures:
  1. A ½ day river rafting adventure (professionally guided) on the Arkansas River through Brown’s Canyon - NOT A BSA SANCTIONED EVENT - PARENTS MUST ATTEND FOR SCOUTS TO BE ABLE TO RAFT (minimum age: 7 years old);
  2. Hiking in the Collegiate Peaks Wilderness Area; or
  3. Fishing on Cottonwood Creek or at a nearby lake.
Scouts may attend without their family, but must also sign up for one of the NON-RAFTING adventures by the signup deadline.

When?

Friday, August 14 – Sunday, August 16, 2009
We will meet at the church at 4:00 pm Friday, and return around noon on Sunday.

Where?

We will be camping both nights in a developed forest service campground (Collegiate Peaks Campground) 11 miles west of Buena Vista near the top of Cottonwood Pass on Highway 308. Buena Vista is southwest of Denver on Highway 285. We will be in developed sites (they contain fire rings and tent pads, and the camp has on-site latrines and potable water), but will be within walking distance of potable water and vault latrines.

Who is in Charge?

Mr. Bivens

Cost?

$18.00 per person (for camp site and food).
No mileage reimbursement for this camp, since it is a family camp.

$51.00 per person (for half day of river rafting – due to troop by reservation deadline or no reservation will be made).

Fishing and hiking are free.  Youth under 16 may fish without a license. Anyone over 16 must have a fishing license in order to fish.

Sign-up Deadline?

Due to the advanced notice needed to reserve the ½ day rafting trip and the correct number of campsites, the signup deadline for this camp will be Tuesday, July 21, 2009 at Midnight. No exceptions.
Having trouble with the website sign-up? Email Mr. Abell.

Special Requirements?

All scouts, siblings, and adults planning to attend must have a Class I Med Form on file with the Troop, which does not need to be signed by their physician.  All adults must be registered with the troop and have completed Youth Protection Training.
