May 2010 Camp Out - Survivorman

Posted by Prescott on March 31, 2010

Description:survivorman-challenge-logo-2010
The world famous Survivorman Challenge Campout is finally here.  This is a competition campout where Patrols do things just like the TV shows Man vs. Wild and Survivorman.  We will arrive Friday night and set up tents.  On Saturday morning everyone will go through Survival School Training until lunch.  After Lunch, the disaster happens and Patrols will be on their own in the confines of the undeveloped Peaceful Valley- Gates Backcountry.  They will have all afternoon and evening to read their maps, find caches of critical items (tarps, food, rope, etc.), demonstrate the skills they’ve learned, and build their shelters.  They will sleep in their homemade shelters Saturday night.  Before dark, Patrols will be notified of the “Extraction Point” they will need to find their way to by 10am Sunday morning.

First-Year Scouts will participate in the map reading and orienteering parts of the Challenge, but will sleep in their tents on Saturday night.
