May 8th Troop Meeting

Posted by Austin K on May 6, 2018

Hello Troop 16! Here is the agenda for May 8th.

First of all, this troop meeting will be back at our regular location at Parker United Methodist Church. During the meeting, flags will be done by the Dirty Socks patrol. After flags, we will continue with camp prep for Survivorman.

After Survivorman camp prep, we will be reviewing everything we have been learning for the past few meetings in order to be prepared for Survivorman. If there is extra time, we will play a game.

Lastly, don’t forget in two weeks there will be a court of honor. This means the PLC meeting will be the week before instead of the last week of the month. For those of you that are new, a court of honor occurs at least twice a year and it is when we get recognized for all of our awards we achieved recently.

For those of you that are attending Survivorman, I hope you have fun!

See you all Tuesday!

May 1st Troop Meeting

Posted by Austin K on April 29, 2018

Hello Scouts and Adults! Here is the plan for the May 1st troop meeting.

First of all, remember that we are meeting at the park across the street from Parker United Methodist Church. Remember to bring warm clothes, raingear, and a flashlight to the park. During the meeting, we will doing a navigation challenge. With our patrols, we will be using a compass to find points on a map. This will be the main activity during the meeting.

If you went to the merit badge college this weekend, I hope you accomplished a lot. During the next couple meetings, try to finish up all of the requirements you were not able to complete this weekend.

Don’t forget that this upcoming Saturday will be the church work day. It is a great way to get some service hours towards the rank you are working on. If you are attending, it will begin at 8:00am. Another opportunity for service hours is the National Day of Prayer on Thursday and there is one spot still available.

Lastly, Survivorman is less than 2 weeks away, therefore, if you want to attend, sign up before the deadline on May 8th.

See you all at the park on Tuesday!

Big Horn 2018 – Troop Sponsorship Application

Posted by Sonya Lipman on October 9, 2017

National Youth Leadership Training (NYLT) is an exciting, action-packed program designed to provide youth members with leadership skills and experience they can use in their home units and in other situations demanding leadership of self and others.

The Big Horn NYLT Course is leadership training experience sponsored by the Denver Area Council and held annually at Tahosa High Adventure Base near Ward, Colorado. The training is conducted by highly qualified youth staff under the supervision of adult advisors.

The course models a month in the life of a unit and consists of six days of Scout activities.

Each year Troop 16 provides sponsorship for some scouts to attend the event. If you are at first class or above and are interested in applying for a sponsorship, you must submit an essay consisting of at least 1 full single-spaced page describing your vision of a great leader and what qualities make great leaders.  Essays must be emailed to scoutmaster@bsa16.org by December 1, 2017 in order to be considered for the sponsorship.

The Passing of One of Our Own

Posted by Mark Williams on October 8, 2017

It is with sadness that I report that one of Troop 16’s former scouters passed away unexpectedly on Friday, September 29th. Joe Kjar, Troop 16 Assistant Scoutmaster serving from 2008 to 2014, and father of Eagle Scout Devin Kjar (2014), passed away. He died of natural causes at the age of 50, and leaves behind his children, Devin and Brooke, his ex-wife Michele Peterson, and his parents, Jim and Judy Kjar (all of Parker). He would have celebrated his 51st birthday on October 5th. The family will hold a Memorial and Celebration of Joe’s Life at Ponderosa Valley Funeral Services on October 26, 2017 starting at 3:00 pm. All interested scouts and scouters are welcome to attend. The family has asked that memorial contributions be made to Troop 16 in honor of his love for scouting. http://www.ponderosavalleyfunerals.com/notices/Joseph-Kjar

Sincerely,
Mark Abell
Former Scoutmaster (2009-2011)
