New Scout Campout

Posted by Nate Smith on April 11, 2020

I have created some youtube videos to cover some on the information we would have at the campout. These are posted on the website and available here:

Tents and Sleeping Bag Basics –

Information for Parents of New Scouts –

Smellables –
Clothing for Campouts –

Knives and Flashlights –

Most of these are about how to prepare for campouts, what type of gear you need, and how parents work in the troop. I am happy to answer questions you have, I tried to keep it short.

At 2pm I will offer a zoom video with just the new scouts and parents, you will be required to use your name to login or you will not be accepted to the meeting. I will be covering pocket knife safety Scout rank requirement 5, and also answering any questions you have. I will email out the info on the zoom.

You to not have to sleep outside tonight, due to the cold, but when you do take a short video of your vent and set up and send it to me and we will sign off the requirement. We are looking at Tenderfoot 1a. 1b and 1c. Take a picture of the gear you use, the tent set up and send a brief email on how you practice the outdoor code. We will have a plan for Tuesday to complete more requirements.

Stay Cheerful.

Mr. Smith Scoutmaster

June 2019 – Whitewater Rafting Adventure

Posted by Robert Holzhauser on May 10, 2019

Troop 16 scouts have requested a whitewater rafting adventure, and here it comes. Join us June 21 – 23 for a camping trip to Buena Vista, Colorado, including a full day raft trip on the Arkansas River.

We will camp in the group site at the Buena Vista KOA which has shower and bathroom facilities nearby the tent site. On Saturday we will make a short drive to Wilderness Aware Rafting and embark on a full day raft trip on the Arkansas River which includes a lunch provided by the rafting company. We are currently planning the Narrows Express section but Wilderness Aware may modify the section rafted based on flow to ensure it is appropriate for ages 10+. This company has years of experience with scout groups and an excellent safety record and experienced guides. The cost of the rafting is $110 (a great discount) in addition to the standard camp fee of $20 plus the fuel charge of $10 to reimburse drivers, making a total weekend cost per person of $140. This is a great way to introduce Scouts and Scouters to the scenic beauty of our nearby Colorado treasures, the Arkansas River and Brown’s Canyon. Adults are encouraged to sign-up to share the adventure with their scout!

Registration Deadline: Monday, June 10, 2019 so that scouts can do a swim check at the Pool Party, June 11.

Hello Troop 16,

I am currently the Historian for this term and I want to let everyone know if you take any photos at Survivorman to please send them to my email: I would like to organize an album with all of the Survivorman photos. Also, if you have any photos for any of the previous activities and campouts this year, please send them to me as well and I will start making a photo album for those too.

Wilderness First Aid Classes

Posted by Brian Hardy on January 12, 2019

There are a number of classes in the area coming up for Advanced Wilderness First Aid as well as for 2-year re-certification classes for anyone with an expiring certification.

All of the National High Adventure treks that we go on require the adults in attendance to have this certification so if you are planning to go to Philmont this year or Northern Tier next year now is the time to complete this class.
