STEM Nova and Supernova Awards
Posted by Mark Williams on October 10, 2012As I discussed with you last night, BSA has an exciting new program focused on Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM). Through this program, the boys can do activities to earn the Nova and Supernova awards.
The main BSA webpage for information can be found at http://www.scouting.org/stem.aspx.
The Boy Scout level awards and requirements can be found at http://www.scouting.org/stem/Awards/BoyScouts.aspx.
Adults who wish to be a Supernova counselor can review the information found on the page http://www.scouting.org/stem/Council/Volunteer_Support.aspx.
I have sent questions to the main BSA STEM POC based on some discussions last night. The first question pertains to identifying Nova (not Supernova) counselors. The second question pertains to the ability to use previously earned merit badges for a Nova award. I will post here any information I may get back.
As we will probably need to have some troop specific policies in place, we will probably need to discuss some points at the next committee meeting.
Until further notice, please consider me to be the troop Nova and Supernova point of contact.
Thank You,
Mr. Williams
