Church Work Day

Posted by thesees on April 26, 2015

Troop,

May 2, 2015 is the Church work day.  This is a mandatory event where the Troop gives back to our Charter Organization, Parker United Methodist Church.  We will be starting at 8:00 a.m. and working until at least noon.  We need wheelbarrows, shovels, rakes, pruning equipment, brooms and any other yard equipment you may have available.  Please make sure to bring sun screen, water and work gloves.

If you are unable to attend this event, you must contact Mrs. Baldwin to let her know why you won’t be there.

Don’t Forget to Sign Up for Survivorman!!

Posted by Mark Abell on April 23, 2015

Reminder: Tuesday the 28th at midnight is the deadline for sign-up for the Survivorman Challenge. Scouts and Adults: WE NEED YOU!

In order for this Challenge to work as designed, we need 26 adults signed up for the challenge and to give their weekend to their boys (and Crew girls). Right now, we are well short of that goal.

What will you get in return? Kids with big smiles and stories to share – and a personal and intimate experience that demonstrates what scouting with Troop 16/Crew 16 is all about. (Oh, and lots of exercise!)

Here is a link to the Information Page and Sign-Ups.

Troop 16 First Years CampOut 2015

Posted by zachary b on April 17, 2015

At the first year camp out, the first-year scouts had a great time,  and they learned many skills. The first-year scouts  learned first how to set up the cooking utensils, patrol boxes and stoves. They also learned how to incorporate the scout law in their daily lives. They learned how to setup equipment and sleep in a real tent, and how to safely start and care for a fire. They also learned how to safely handle knives, saws, and axes. The first years also learned what equipment to bring on camp outs. Last, they also learned how to tie different types of knots and how to do first aid. The new staff troop guide did a great job helping the first years transition to boy scouts.

2015 SURVIVORMAN Challenge Now Posted

Posted by Mark Abell on April 16, 2015

survivorman-challenge-logo-finalThe internationally recognized Troop 16 SURVIVORMAN Challenge is coming May 15-17, 2015. The sign-up and information pages have now been posted, and it is time to sign up.

This year, we are changing the challenges yet again. The Level 1 Challenge will be our First Year challenge, and will include Trail to First Class Challenges at each point on the map. The Level 2 Challenge will have a completely new theme, and it will be up to each patrol to determine what is important and what is not for their survival. They will also face a variety of scout skills and survival challenges along the way. We will also have Search and Rescue planes in the air, searching for the teams, as a training exercise; and the patrols will need to be spotted if they hope to have a chance at ultimate survival. The Staff and Crew 16 will form patrols to compete in the Level 2 Challenge this year. Finally, provided we have at least 6 eligible scouts sign up, we will bring back the Solo Level 3 Challenge!

Parents and Scouters: We need you! To pull this campout off, we need at least 24 adults to sign up to help in base camp, at Command Posts, as judges out in the field, and as rovers. No experience needed. We will train you.
